Anyone who knows the Hochfeldernalm knows: the way there is already half the reward – open alpine terrain, unobstructed views of the Zugspitze, and at the end, one of the highest staffed alpine huts in the Gaistal.
The Route: Salzbach Car Park → Hochfeldernalm

The path initially runs flat through the Gaistal on wide forest tracks before climbing increasingly steeply to the Hochfeldernalm. Above the tree line, the trail becomes narrower and more alpine, with open views of the Zugspitze massif.

Practical Tips
- Start early: On warm days it’s more pleasant to do the ascent in the morning
- Keep an eye on the weather: In case of thunderstorms (common on summer afternoons), it’s best to turn back
- Reserve your overnight stay: The Hochfeldernalm is popular – be sure to call ahead; a hut sleeping bag is required
- Alternative access: Also reachable from the Ehrwald side – on foot or via the Ehrwald cable car
