Anyone who has seen the Seebensee instantly understands why this mountain lake tops so many Tyrolean bucket lists. And anyone who knows the Hochfeldernalm knows that the path leading there is already half the experience.
The route: Stupfer car park → Hochfeldernalm → Seebensee
Start: Car park P2 Stupfer

The Seebensee – the destination
The Seebensee at 1,657 m belongs to the Ehrwald basin and is one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Northern Calcareous Alps. The turquoise water set against the Zugspitze massif is a picture-postcard scene – especially on a calm morning.
Right on the shore sits the Seebenalm: open daily 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (from late May), serving regional dishes on a large sun terrace.
Practical tips
- Start early: The route is long – set off no later than 8:30 a.m.
- Keep an eye on the weather: Thunderstorms build quickly (common on summer afternoons) – turn back if needed
- Reserve your overnight stay: The Hochfeldernalm is popular – always call ahead
- Alternative access: From the Ehrwald side via cable car (much shorter, but a different starting point)
