Getting to the Tillfußalm
From car park P1 Salzbach, it’s a roughly 45-minute walk along the flat Ganghoferweg to the Tillfußalm. The path is wide, well marked and perfectly manageable for older guests too. With a sturdy buggy it’s also doable with a small child.
On a mountain bike, you can reach the hut in around 20 minutes.
What to expect at the Tillfußalm
The hut serves classic Tyrolean alpine fare: Brettljause cold platters, Tyrolean Speck, home-made cheese, Kaiserschmarrn and homemade cakes. The portions are generous and the prices are typical for the Alps.
The large outdoor terrace looks out over the surrounding alpine meadows – in summer, cattle, sheep and goats graze on the pastures around the hut.
Ludwig Ganghofer and the Tillfußalm
Above the Tillfußalm stood the hunting lodge of Ludwig Ganghofer, the Munich author who put the Gaistal on the map with his novel Das Schweigen im Walde (Silence in the Forest). The Ganghoferweg passes directly by the hut and commemorates this piece of Tyrolean literary history.
Overnight stays at the Tillfußalm
The Tillfußalm offers a dormitory with 9 beds, but only from early June to the end of August (not in September/October). Bookings by phone: +43 676 610 47 70. Cash payment only.
