The Hochfeldernalm at 1,640 m lies at the upper end of the Gaistal, directly on the way to the famous Seebensee. It is one of the best-positioned alms in the valley: those who walk the final metres from here to the turquoise mountain lake have long since left the dense forest zone behind and are hiking through open alpine landscape with a view of the Zugspitz massif. The Hochfeldernalm is not just a stopping point – it is the ideal base for everyone who wants to explore the upper Gaistal thoroughly.
Location and Panorama
The alm sits on a sunny plateau that opens southwards towards the Zugspitze. The distinctive Zugspitz massif dominates the view; on clear days parts of the Karwendel can also be made out. The Seebensee is about 30 walking minutes away – those who plan the Hochfeldernalm as a lunch stop can afterwards ascend to the lake at a relaxed pace.
The terrain is open alpine meadow: wide grassland, scattered mountain pines and boulders – a true high-alpine atmosphere that instantly pushes everyday life into the background.
Hospitality and Kitchen
The Hochfeldernalm is run with genuine passion. The kitchen is down-to-earth, honest and really good: hot daily specials, Tyrolean Brettljausen, homemade soups and alm cake. Those who book half-board receive a hearty mountain dinner in the evening and a breakfast in the morning that sets them up for the day ahead.
The large sun terrace, where you can relax and enjoy the view, is particularly popular – with a glass of shandy or a freshly brewed tea after the ascent.

Getting There
The starting point is the Stupfer car park (P2) in the Gaistal. From there a well-marked trail leads uphill in a south-easterly direction – first through woodland, then increasingly open. After approx. 2 hours (650 m altitude gain) you reach the Hochfeldernalm. The route is demanding but technically straightforward – sturdy footwear is sufficient.
From the Hochfeldernalm it is another approx. 30 minutes to the Seebensee (1,808 m) and a further 30 minutes to the Seebenalm (1,905 m). Those planning the full ascent to the Seebensee should start early and plan the Hochfeldernalm as a lunch stop.
