The cosy cabin – what’s the story?
What makes the Wettersteinhütte special is its separate Kuschelhütte (cosy cabin): a small, snug little building away from the main bustle, bookable for 2–8 people. Perfect for couples wanting to enjoy a night in the silence, or small groups who prefer not to sleep in the large dormitory.
Advance booking is absolutely essential – the cosy cabin fills up quickly during the summer season. Phone: +43 660 3462100
Getting to the Wettersteinhütte
From Salzbach car park (P1): Up through the Gaistalbachgraben, approx. 1.5 hours. The path is well marked and signposted throughout. A moderate level of fitness is sufficient.
Alternative from P2 Stupfer: Slightly shorter – approx. 1.2 hours depending on the route chosen.
As part of the High Alms Circular Hike
The Wettersteinhütte is a central point on the popular High Alms Circular Hike – 12.5 km, 650 m elevation gain, passing the Wangalm and Hämmermoosalm. One of the most beautiful circular tours in the entire Gaistal.
What to expect at the hut
The hut is run by the Schütz family, who have poured heart and soul into it for years. The kitchen serves hearty Tyrolean food, hot main courses and homemade pastries. The terrace offers panoramic views of the rock faces of the Wettersteingebirge.
Dogs are unfortunately not permitted at the Wettersteinhütte.
